Penshurst Public School has a growing band program. Currently there are approximately 20 children involved in the Performing Band and 20 children in the Training Band. Their musical skills are developed by a specialist teacher. Students have tutorials, with specialists, inside and outside of school hours. 

Band practice takes place once a week and the children pay a weekly band and tutorial fee and a moderate sum to hire their instrument.  Music has been shown to help children learn and with many high schools having extensive band programs, being part of a primary school band can give students a head start.

Throughout the year, the band participates in concerts including a combined schools night concert, Westfield Education Week performances as well as school performances such as Presentation Day.
